Pac-12 announces Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Month

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today that Katie Ledecky of STANFORD was named Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Month and UCLA’s Ciara Monahan was voted Pac-12 Women’s Diver of the Month for November.

Monahan (Woodland Hills, Calif.) posted at least one runner-up finish at each of the Bruins' November competitions. The Bruins started out the month of November at a dual meet at Arizona on November 3. She placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 278.63 and in the 1-meter with 250.43 points. The Bruins followed it up with a meet at Arizona State the next day. The senior again placed second in the 1-meter, breaking the 300 mark with a score of 309.38 and placed fifth in the 3-meter with 264.45 points. The Bruins then returned to Los Angeles, where Monahan dominated the Trojan Diving Invitational with wins in both the 3-Meter (301.85 preliminary-round score) and 1-Meter (300.05 final-round score) events.

Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.) won eight individual races ain seven different events, which included an American record in the 1650 free. Through the month of November, Katie owns the fastest time in the nation in the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 free, and is the only swimmer to break four minutes in the 400 IM. Her American record of 15:03.31 is nearly a full minute faster than any other swimmer in the nation this year, while her top time in the 1000 free is 20 seconds better than the next-best swimmer and her best time of 4:27.84 in the 500 free leads the country by almost 10 seconds.
