Stanford water polo player Maggie Steffens is the Cardinal's female recipient of the 2016-17 Tom Hansen Medal. Steffens is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time NCAA champion, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2017 final with nine seconds left. During spring break, she organized a visit to a local children's hospital and began an initiative to increase awareness around pool safety for children.
