UCLA's Adekoya named men's soccer player of the week

Sep 29, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO – UCLA's Seyi Adekoya was voted Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for competition during the week of Sept. 21-27, the Conference office announced on Tuesday.

Adekoya, a sophomore forward from Seattle, Wash., scored four goals over three games last week for UCLA. His four goals over the weekend helped the Bruins to a 2-1 weekend record. Against UCSB, Adekoya scored the first goal in UCLA’s two-goal effort. The striker then went on to score the opening goal in UCLA’s 2-1 victory over VCU.

Playing with 10 men and down three goals in the second half, Adekoya netted the first and second Bruin goals in UCLA’s remarkable 4-3 comeback win over UC Irvine. He recorded eight points over the weekend, scoring four goals in only 10 shots.

His four goals move his season total to six, leading the team in scoring. Adekoya has scored all six of his goals over the last four games, including a pair of two-goal performances. He now ranks 12th in the nation in goals with six, leading the Conference in that category as well. This is Adekoya’s third Conference weekly honor and the 57th all-time weekly nod for UCLA.

With a pair of wins to close out non-conference play, the preseason favorites start league play on the road this week against Oregon State and Washington.

A total of 37 matches will be featured live on the Pac-12 Networks.
