Pac-12 names Morris men's soccer player of the week

Oct 20, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO – STANFORD’S Jordan Morris was voted Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for competition during the week of Oct. 12-18, the Conference office announced on Tuesday.

Morris, a junior forward from Mercer Island, Wash., scored in both games last weekend and has tallied a goal in five-straight matches for the Cardinal. Fresh off U.S. Soccer duties with the Under-23 Men’s National Team, Morris netted the game-winning goal in the 65th minute at UCLA on Friday night giving Stanford its first-ever win in Westwood, taking the match, 2-1. In the 3-1 win over SDSU, Morris scored the Cardinal’s opening goal in the 11th minute helping to extend the team’s unbeaten streak to 12.

Morris has scored six times in nine appearances for the Cardinal, already matching his single-season career high from 2013, when he had six goals in 21 games as a freshman.

With its six points, Stanford swept a Conference road trip for the first time since 2006.

This is Morris’ second weekly honor and the 24th all-time Conference weekly nod for Stanford.

Stanford matches up against UCLA and SDSU again this weekend, this time playing host. The Cardinal and the Bruins play a Friday-night tilt at 8 p.m., then Stanford welcomes the Aztecs to The Farm on Monday at 7 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.

A total of 37 matches will be featured live on the Pac-12 Network.
